How to Enter
Reserve an Element
In order to ensure that the widest range of elements is covered, teams will be able to register for a particular element starting in September.
A limited number of entries for each element will be allowed. Plan now to be sure you get the element of your choice.
There will be two competition categories:
- Solo Projects
Individual entries for students who conceive and carry out their videos as solo projects
- Group Projects
Team entries for students who conceive and carry out their videos as group projects
All videos will be judged on the following criteria:
- Presentation of scientific information
The information contained in the video is accurate and has depth and focus.
- Integration of historical/social context
The video places the element within an historical/social context rather than merely listing factual information about the element.
- Effective presentation and technical merit
The video shows good production standards and all material relates and is appropriate to the subject. There is a structure to the story, such as a story arc or central theme that is explicitly developed.
- Overall artistry and quality
The video shows good artistic quality and attention to detail. The look and feel of the video is consistent throughout and shows deliberate design.
A word about equipment
With the widespread availability of simple video equipment and software, you don’t need anything fancy to create a great video for this contest. However, if you are interested in purchasing video production equipment, download these basic and mid-range equipment and software lists.
